Today is Delaware Day, honoring the date when in 1787, Delaware became the FIRST STATE in this new United States of America by ratifying the US Constitution. From December 3-7, a group of 30 delegates from the three counties (Sussex, Kent, New Castle) met at the Golden Fleece Tavern in Dover for a Ratification Convention. On December 7th, they unanimously ratified the Constitution, making Delaware the first state to do so. Today, school children across the state will have lessons centered on Delaware’s role in making this, our UNITED States of America. You can visit the site where the Ratification took place or Constitution Park, steps away, in Dover, our State Capital.
