March 12, 2020 TO: Maritime Exchange Members As you may be aware, in his address to the nation last night, President Trump announced a 30-day ban on all travel from Europe to the U.S. starting this Friday. Unfortunately, he also said the prohibition would apply to trade and cargo. This was apparently a misstatement. President Trump later tweeted a clarification: " . . . very important for all countries & businesses to know that trade will in no way be affected by the 30-day restriction on travel from Europe. The restriction stops people not goods." While the volume of information coming out about coronavirus is growing hourly, the Exchange will continue to keep members advised of any updates specifically related to ship and cargo processing.
