New Castle, DE, Jan. 2021— The Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) Board of Directors unanimously voted to establish a content policy specific to the agency’s new Program on China and Transformational Exports (China Program) creating an easier path for U.S. exporters in ten transformational export sectors to utilize EXIM support. This new EXIM policy will expand opportunities for US companies in the sectors of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, biomedical sciences, wireless communications equipment (including 5G or subsequent wireless technologies) quantum computing, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and energy storage, semiconductor and semiconductor machinery manufacturing, emerging financial technologies or FinTech, water treatment and sanitation and high-performance computing. “This is ground-breaking,” stated World Trade Center Delaware President Carla Stone. “It will help companies that compete with China in transformational industries, and Delaware is home to many of these sectors.” WTC Delaware is member of EXIM’s Regional Export Promotion Program and works together with EXIM in partnership to expand export opportunities. The new content policy recognizes that companies in these critical emerging sectors face significant barriers to export under current rules. These sectors will qualify for EXIM financing if the proposed transaction meets a 51 percent U.S. content threshold, at which point EXIM may support up to 85 percent of the value of all eligible goods and services in the U.S. export contract. ?By expanding access to credit, it reduces risk so that high tech companies, particularly small and medium sized companies like those all along the “Delaware Innovation Corridor” so they can be more competitive with Chinese companies.
