We have received an Alert from the Maritime Exchange of the Delaware River and Bay concerning the importation of lemons from Northwest Argentina. Please read the following Alert and contact Beverly Ford [email protected] if you have any questions. Problem viewing this email? Click here for our online version. February 10, 2017 TO: Maritime Exchange Members CBP-USDA Agriculture Working Group Members As you may be aware, last December the USDA office of Agriculture and Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS) amended regulations to allow the importation of lemons from northwest Argentina into the continental United States effective as of January 23, 2017. On January 25, APHIS issued a 60-day stay of those regulations. Needless to say, Delaware River port businesses stand to benefit from the potential new business these lemons would bring. Accordingly, the Maritime Exchange has sent comments to APHIS in support of the final rule. Below are links to the initial letter in response to the original notice of proposed rule, the letter in response to the extension of the proposed rule, and the more recent letter following the stay. Initial letter of comment to docket dated June 1, 2016 Letter of comment on extension of proposed rule dated July 7, 2016 Letter of comment concerning stay of regulation dated February 6, 2017 We encourage Exchange members with an interest in this cargo who haven’t already sent their own comments to communicate with APHIS at this time. You are welcome to use the Exchange letters as a guide if needed. Should you have any questions or need additional information, contact Beverly Ford.
