BIRD - U.S.-Israel Binational Industrial R&D Foundation to invest $900,000 in a NovellusDx and Christiana Care Gene Editing Institute Collaboration (Philadelphia, January 31, 2017) - The Philadelphia-Israel Chamber of Commerce (PICC), a representative of the U.S.-Israel Binational Industrial R&D Foundation (BIRD) in Pennsylvania and Delaware, is pleased to announce that the Board of Governors of the BIRD Foundation approved a $900,000 grant to a collaboration between the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center and Research Institute at Christiana Care and NovellusDx. This grant was part of a $7.2 million in funding for eight new projects between U.S. and Israeli companies. "We are very excited to help facilitate funding for a cutting-edge joint venture advancing cancer treatments between local and Israeli partners stimulating the Israeli and local economies," remarked David Allon, MBA, President of the Philadelphia-Israel Chamber of Commerce. The BIRD Foundation promotes collaboration between U.S. and Israeli companies in various industries for the purpose of advanced product development. In addition to providing conditional grants of up to $1 million for approved projects, the Foundation assists by working with companies to identify potential strategic partners and facilitate introductions. Projects submitted to the BIRD Foundation are reviewed by evaluators appointed by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and by the Israel Innovation Authority, formerly the Office of the Chief Scientist (OCS) at the Israel Ministry of Economy and Industry. On January 25, the PICC hosted a First Responders and HLS Technologies Summit in Philadelphia facilitating joint ventures and promoting application to a new BIRD grant for First Responders and HLS technologies. Numerous regional companies expressed interest in submitting grants proposals.
